Iceland Mixed-Surface Cycling Vacation

We first visited Iceland in 2018 and instantly fell in love with how different it was to anything we'd encountered before. We'd like to take you to another planet. The steaming hillsides, lava beaches, endless moss and the waterfalls are just a few of the countless things we'd like to experience with you by bike.

This vacation can't guarantee warmth, however, we'll show you some amazing vistas and immerse you in Iceland's rich history regardless of the weather.

Our theme for this vacation is 'Embrace the Adventure: We'll ride when we can and do cool stuff regardless.'

July 15th Departure from Calgary flying DIRECT!
July 22nd Arrival back in Calgary on a DIRECT flight home, or have the option to stay and continue exploring!

This vacation will be $4,900 CDN + GST.

This is based on double occupancy. Single occupancy is an option, however, we will have to determine the cost.

Everything Will Be Taken Care Of...
Let us do the planning so you can do the enjoying. Rides, all meals, airport transfers, upkeep of your bike while there, coaching, guiding, experienced awesome support, local street cred, sooo many photo ops, drone footage, friends that love to do what you do!
Recommended Ability and Equipment:
The Doctrine holds several cycling vacation that have NO ability criteria other than the ability to ride safely. This pavement/gravel/lava vacation requires an increased level of technique and skill due to the nature of the roadway as well as a slightly higher level of experience due to the inherent harder terrain. We will also stipulate at a minimum a recent gravel bike with the ability to mount 47mm or wider tubeless tires.

The Experience

Here is what we are proud to have developed.

Our flagship vacation is based out of the roads East of Iceland's capital Reykjavik and includes roads that will challenge you physically, but captivate you mentally. This should be considered an 'adventure' vacation for cyclists willing to adapt. First and foremost, this is a cycling vacation, however, it will differ from our other vacations in that the rides will be shorter in duration so we can experience other aspects of the phenomenal countryside. We'll have something for most abilities, however, we would classify this as an intermediate level vacation. We don't take cyclists anywhere 'ordinary' and once again, the endless awesome here is really hard to put in to words.

Doctrine Coaches Trev and Marie are excited to host this once in a lifetime cycling and sightseeing adventure.

Be prepared for rides in another world... The land of Fire and Ice is comparable to nothing we've ever ridden before!

After several trips to experience a whole different kind of gravel adventure, Trev and Marie want you to experience the magic and the challenge of cycling the stunning and isolated roads that showcase volcanoes, glaciers, geysers and waterfalls. This intermediate cycling vacation will be dictated in part by weather, road conditions and your desire to challenge yourself. We will have the flexibility to ride, sightsee, and hopefully both each day!

Supported rides will be 2-4 hours depending on weather and your comfort level but rain and high winds can show up in an instant! We are going to be prepared to ride in any conditions but know that sometimes plans will change to the "B or C" option with the hope that your sense of adventure is ready to be flexible on a moment's notice too! No matter the plan you are guaranteed an adventure like no other country could come close to! The Vikings may have discovered Iceland, but you will see why they were never able to tame it!

One of the final days, we've have decided to include The Rift Gravel Event as the included course traverses roads that would otherwise be extremely difficult to take you. There is a 45km, 100km, and 200km option. This event is on July 20th. After the event, we'll gather around the dinner table and share our stories. The next morning we'll make our way back into Reykjavik to spend our final evening in Iceland's capital.

The biggest logistics for this vacation is to arrive with the correct bike and the proper clothing ready for anything. One of the cool aspects of Iceland is its unpredicatability.
Rain and wind gear are a must. Shoes that are more substantial than summer road shoes, or good shoe booties are a minimum.

We'll handle the driving, the fixing, the routes, the meals, and the sleeping!

We'll work with you in the months leading up to your vacation to ensure you have everything you need.
